Lifelong learning with IT(Studying in the outside is great fun!)

By Mia:

This is a friend of mine, who is a teacher at a primary school. After class, the students were led by the teacher to the pond behind school to educate through entertainment.

However, can only the face to face Learning Model be used to acquire knowledge? And if people are older, does it mean that they cannot study like a child?

My grandmother is a retired surgeon. Every Monday, Thursday, and Friday, her and her friends go together to the University for the Seniors to their learning programs. In their class, the teacher uses multimedia to play teaching videos. Thus, the students can be close to new knowledge more easily. The students can use computers to learn more things in the computer lab room, like reading articles. The elderly can also learn by distance learning anywhere. They can submit assignments and carry on animated discussions with teachers through the sessions even though they are in different cities or even in different countries.

In my hometown, the senior citizens do not have much of a chance to have contact with the new technologies. But the university for old people gives them a good environment to gain knowledge wisely and efficiently. In this teaching way, using IT technique, the teacher can easily impart knowledge, and at the same time, improve on their teaching ways. We must, however, know that computers can never replace the teachers.

  1. I love this very "personal" view of technology and its applications. Its also one of the few "views" I've read in which someone is actually referring to the use of education for "elder" rather than the younger. I have never given it much thought but you have made me think that maybe we don't target technology enough to "other" populations. I wonder what the impact would be on the whole of the community if, like in your home town, the elder, just as much as the young could be involved in technology usage. Would it change the general perspective and views on the use of ICT? Would it change our ideas on "digital natives?"
